Glycyrrhiza glabra

Licorice (root) is an adaptogen, demulcent, expectorant, pectoral, antiviral and antidepressant. This sweet herb strengthens endocrine function, especially the adrenals, ovaries, pancreatic cells and the hypothalamus. It is useful for chronic fatigue syndrome, meonpausal symptoms, autoimmune disease and hypoglycemia. It is an excellent demulcent and it soothes and reduces inflammation of the mucous membranes in the lungs and digestive tract. It has been used for irritable bowel syndrome and stomach ulcers and it promotes a healthy adrenal response to stress. Licorice naturally grows in Turkey, the Middle East, China, India, Southern Europe and Asia.
