Ginger Root

Zingiber officianale

Ginger (root) is useful for nausea, gas, and motion sickness. It is one of the few safe herbs to use in pregnancy for morning sickness. It is also useful for cramping; both intestinal cramps, as well as menstrual cramps. This spicy herb's anti-inflammatory activity makes it useful for osteoarthritis and other inflammatory conditions. Its warming qualities support peripheral circulation and may help Raynaud's Syndrome. It also works as an expectorant for those with excess phlegm and is a diaphoretic which helps to reduce fevers. Ginger's antiviral properties make it a good remedy for colds and flus. It was first discovered and used medicinally in the tropical Asian climates.
