Blessed Thistle

Cnicus benedictus

Blessed Thistle (leaf, flower and stem) is used as a bitter herb which tonifies digestion by stimulating the secretion of digestive juices in the stomach and supporting the breakdown of fats. It also helps to promote a healthy appetite and assists in the assimilation of nutrients. Blessed Thistle has been used historically by midwives to stimulate breast milk production and to enhance it nutritionally. It was also used by monks to reduce the fever in small pox, measles and chicken pox. This plant is native to the Mediterranean and should not be confused with Milk Thistle.
